Abstract

The problem formulation solution relate to scheduling of the Norwegian power production and demand system. The power production system is strongly hydro-dominated with an installed total capacity of about 25 000 MW. The number of hydro power plants is close to 650 and installed capacity is greater than 100 MW at 75 sites. Total reservoir capacity is close to 70% of average total yearly run-off. The main transmission system consists of approximately 7000 km of interconnecting 420/300/132 kV lines. Following a brief overview of the scheduling problem, which is characterized by strong stochasticity on the supply side and a built-in flexibility on the demand side, scheduling methods on stochastic as well as deterministic planning levels are dealt with.
