Abstract
The emitter-coupled pair still is the core of the fastest circuit-families, the ECL- or CML-schemes. We shortly revisit the static behaviour of the circuit and investigate then its dynamic behaviour when used as a digital shifter. Taking into account the nonlinear and the dynamic effects of the bipolar transistor we will develop an analytical expression for the delay time that describes the functional dependency upon the circuit- and device parameters.
