Abstract

For approximately nine years the summer pasturing of sheep in the Swiss Alps has been regulated by an ordinance. This has led to a positive development in sheep management. Nevertheless, various problems still arise, especially those concerning the selection of areas not to be used as pasture, the calculation of the nett pasture area and the use of higher situations after the 1st August. In the article these difficulties are explained and propositions are put forward for a coherent application of the summer pasturing contribution.
