Abstract
SUMMARY The planktic foraminiferan Schackoina moliniensis Reichel is recorded and described for the first time from the Hunstanton Formation (Red Chalk) of north-east England. Its distribution in two sections is presented: the upper part of the Red Cliff Hole Member of the Hunstanton Formation at Speeton in the Cleveland Basin; and from a Thalassinoides burrow beneath the erosion surface near the top of the Hunstanton Formation at South Ferriby on the East Midlands Shelf. This horizon, with S. moliniensis , represents an important, easily recognizable, planktic foraminiferal marker horizon in the lower part of the Lower Cenomanian of north-east England, and enables the extent of the non-sequence at the Albian-Cenomanian boundary on the East Midlands Shelf to be assessed.
