Abstract

Summary. - This study gathers informations on Byzantine seals found in Venice and its neighbourhood, mainly during excavations or archaeological surveys. This sample includes specimens belonging to imperial officials or members of central administration who came to this area due to contacts between Byzantium and Venice. Other lead seals struck locally belong to Venetian-Byzantine officials. The material brings new additional information on the life of a region at the crossroads of West and East.
