Abstract

The decay of hydrated electron (e - aq) has been studied by pulse radiolysis in cationic micellar solutions of dodecyl- and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromides containing N,N,N',N'-tetramethylbenzidine as a scavenger. The observed multiexponential kinetic patterns have been described with the use of time-dependent rate constant of the form: k( t)= Bt α−1 ( B and 0<α<1 are constants). The data are discussed in terms of the mechanism involving trapping of e - aq in the micellar positive potential field, its migration between empty and scavenger occupied micelles and intramicellar electron transfer.
