Abstract

The scattering of water waves by an inclined flat plate piercing the free surface is considered. An approximate solution is derived under the assumptions that the plate makes a small angle with the horizontal and that the incident waves are short compared to the length of the plate. The solution is used to explain previously observed spikes in numerical calculations of the reflection coefficient when plotted as a function of frequency
