Abstract

In a recent paper, Diaz et al. have proposed a comparison between experimental data on light reflected at silver and gold gratings and theoretical calculations based on the extinction theorem. In this paper, we recall that good agreement between theoretical and experimental results in the field of diffraction gratings in the visible region have been observed since 1974, that the main conclusions of Diaz et al. have been given previously in the extensive literature about Wood's anomalies and that the phenomenon of total adsorption of light has been predicted theoretically, this fact being in contradiction to the assertions made by Diaz et al.
