Abstract
The differential and total cross sections for elastic and inelastic scattering processes of neutrons by para- and ortho-hydrogen molecules are calculated in this article. In addition to the rotational degrees of freedom of the molecule, we take into account the vibrations of the nuclei in the harmonic approximation. The average neutron energy loss to excitation of the molecular levels is determined.
