Abstract
A large number of partial and total molecular scattering cross sections have been calculated numerically for molecules obeying an exp-six potential, consisting of an exponential repulsion term and an inverse sixth power attraction term. The tabulations cover a wide range of scattering angles, energies, and potential parameters, and can be used to obtain information about intermolecular forces from the results of experiments on the scattering of low velocity molecular beams in gases. The calculations are classical throughout, and quantum effects are ignored, but an approximate formula is given for estimating where the classical calculations break down in any particular case. The use of the tables is illustrated by a comparison with Knauer's results on the scattering of beams of H2 in mercury vapor.
