Abstract

A two-centre, fixed nuclei, close-coupling approximation, including exchange and polarisation effects, is employed to calculate cross sections for the sum of pure elastic and rotational excitation processes in the scattering of electrons by molecular hydrogen. Calculations are performed for impact energies less than 60 eV and for this entire energy region good agreement is obtained with cross sections derived from total cross section measurements.
