Abstract

The displacement field u in an isotropic, noncentrosymmetric (chiral) elastic solid has to be supplemented by the independent microrotation field φ. Six different wavenumbers are possible in a chiral elastic solid: Of these, two represent longitudinal fields and the remaining four are circularly polarized. This paper is concerned with the reflection and refraction of elastic plane waves by planar achiral-chiral interfaces, and the scattering of elastic waves by a chiral sphere.
