Abstract
AbstractThis paper presents an exact solution for scattering of a plane EM move (TM mode) by a perfect conducting circular hollow cylinder having no end caps. The scattered field is evaluated in the Fourier domain using the Wiener‐Hopf technique. The scattered field is divided into the IPO (improved physical optics) field, TE and TM modes in the cylinder and the diffracted fields at two edges. The range of the scattering angle where the IPO field gives good approximation is almost independent of the cylinder length if the cylinder length is larger than several wavelengths.
