Abstract

Differential cross sections for elastic and inelastic scattering of 28.2 MeV neutrons from 12C, and 18.5 MeV neutrons from 52Cr and 60Ni were measured by using the JAERI tandem accelerator. Scattered neutrons were observed by a time-of-flight spectrometer with an array of four 20cm φ x 35cm NE213 liquid scintillator detectors. Neutron time-of-flight spectra were taken at scattering angles from 20° to 140° in 10° steps. Inelastic scattering cross sections of neutrons leading to the 4.439 MeV 2+, and 9.641 MeV 3−states of 12C, 1.434 MeV 2+ and 4.563 MeV 3− states of 52Cr, and 1.332 MeV 2+ and 4.045 MeV 3− states of 60Ni were measured simultaneously with the elastic scattering cross sections. The experimental cross sections were analyzed in terms of phenomenological and microscopic optical model potentials and coupled-channel calculations using the collective model.
