Abstract

Chapter 16 describes the theoretical bases and experimental instruments of static light scattering (SLS), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and their applications to polymer characterizations. The analytical techniques of the Zimm, Fujita, Guinier, and Kratky plots and the cumulant and CONTIN methods to determine molecular weight, radius of gyration (characteristic ratio), hydrodynamic radius, and polydispersity are explained. SLS observed from polysilanes, DLS from polystyrene latex particles, and SANS from amorphous poly(ethylene terephthalate) are analyzed.
