Abstract
Raman scattering from an ${E}_{1}$ mode polariton of LiI${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ is reported. A polariton with energy between 687 and 766 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ is observed in near-forward scattering with $y(\mathrm{zx})\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{y}$ polarization. The polariton is observed only near 764 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ in the $y(\mathrm{xz})\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{y}$ spectra. The results are analyzed. It is also found that the polariton dispersion curve does not change with the orientation of the phonon wave vector.
