Abstract

The scattering problem of a time-harmonic, plane, electromagnetic wave incident from an isotropic medium normally upon a conducting cylinder coated with a moving uniaxial medium is solved. The solution is facilitated by an equivalence between a general, source-free moving medium and a stationary one which is anisotropic both electrically and magnetically. Both an incident TM wave (parallel polarization) and an incident TE wave (perpendicular polarization) are considered. It is found that axial components of both the electric and the magnetic fields will exist regardless of whether the incident wave is TM or TE. However, when the sheath medium in its rest frame is a uniaxial plasma, an incident TM or TE wave excites only TM or TE fields respectively. Scattering from a moving uniaxial column is treated as a special case.
