Abstract

Numerical calculations for the extinction cross sections and the Mueller scattering matrix elements (Sij) for two infinitely long, parallel cylinders are presented and discussed. These quantities are calculated in the far-field region of the cylinders and in a plane perpendicular to their axes. Both normal and oblique incidences are treated. This study shows that Sij are sensitive to the separation between the cylinders and give valuable information about their sizes and orientations. Furthermore, for two cylinders of arbitrary material at oblique incidence, the cross-polarized components are not equal, in contrast to the case of a single cylinder.
