Abstract

The problem of scattering by two parallel multi-layered dielectric circular cylinders is solved exactly by the boundary-value method. It is also shown that the problem could be solved using an approximate solution based on the asymptotic technique by Karp and Russek which is easier for computational purposes. The results indicate good agreement between the exact and the asymptotic solutions. For the sake of simplicity the case of two-layered dielectric cylinders is examined, but the solution could be extended to many layers as well as to many cylinders. In particular, the dielectric-coated conducting cylinder is discussed as a special case of the general problem. The properties of the scattering by two multi-layered dielectric cylinders are expressed in terms of the echo width for five different cases. The backscattering echo width is also calculated at different separations for each case.
