Abstract

We study the scattering of electromagnetic radiation by structural inhomogeneities of CVD diamond windows used to output the power produced by megawatt gyrotrons in the 100–1000 GHz range. It is shown that the scattering can make a significant contribution to the attenuation of the radiation starting from 200 GHz, and becomes a determinant factor near 1 THz. Even in the framework of the single-scattering approximation, about one-third of the scattered power is released beyond the window.
