Abstract

In the present work the electromagnetic scattering by an infinite elliptic dielectric cylinder is studied, under oblique illumination, with the use of the separation of variables method. The scattered and the induced fields are represented via hybrid waves due to the oblique incidence. The formulation supports media described by different wavenumbers and therefore the orthogonality relations for the elliptical wavefunctions cannot be applied. These two facts lead to coupled linear systems involving both polarization components. Numerical results are given for the scattering cross sections for various values of the parameters. The method is exact and can be regarded as an alternative to the ones that are based on integral equations, for the problem studied here.
