Abstract

The multiple scattering of an electromagnetic wave with arbitrary polarization state by a linear array of parallel dielectric cylinders is considered. Such dielectric cylinders are assumed to be made of uniaxial bianisotropic chiral media and embedded in an unbounded host material. Using the boundary-value technique combined with an additional theorem for the cylindrical wave function, the generalized formulation is obtained for calculating the Mueller scattering matrix [M] as well as the extinction cross section of the linear array, which can be used to simulate the multiple scattering of ordered cylindrical chiral objects in composite chiral media. Furthermore, numerical results are presented to show the effects of uniaxial anisotropy of cross-coupling constitutive tensors, nonreciprocity, and chirality on the different elements of [M] and extinction cross sections. Phenomena are discovered and discussed. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
