Abstract

In the present work, microstructural images by scanning and transmission electron microscopy have been analyzed for the surface modification of AM60 magnesium alloy. For such an objective, the pulsed electron beam irradiation technique was used at different values of the surface energy. Both scanning and transmission electron microscopes were utilized to examine the microstructure change after the irradiation, compared to the as-cast magnesium alloy. Obtained results revealed wavy surfaces of AM60 samples after the irradiation process. Due to having lower crack density, the superior irradiation condition was obtained at 5 J/cm2 for 10 pulses for AM60 magnesium alloy.
