Abstract

Abstract The synthesis and properties of nine tris(β-diketonato)scandium(III) complexes containing an unsymmetrical bidentate ligand of the type RC(OH) = CHCOR′ where R is methyl, phenyl, 2′-naphthyl, 2′-thienyl or 2′-furyl and R′ is difluoromethyl, trifluoromethyl or perfluoroethyl are reported. The compounds were characterized by their elemantal analysis. Chemical shift data from 13C and 19F NMR spectra are interpreted in terms of the effect of the R and R' groups. A variable temperature 19F NMR study is also included. The dipole moment data indicated an increase in the dipole moment of the complex with fluorine content of the R'-substituent.
