Abstract

The catalytic use of scandium(III) salts as Lewis acids allows the ring expansion of cyclic aliphatic ketones by carbon insertion from the reaction with diazo compounds obtained from ketones or aldehydes. The resulting monoalkylated or spiro ketones are obtained in very good yields.
