Abstract
The statistical properties of turbulentconvection arestudied numerically in a 2D periodic system relevant for astrongly magnetized plasma. Both cases of unstable and stablestratification are considered. In spite of the anisotropic driving, thespectra are almost perfectly isotropic. In the unstable case the densityfluctuation spectrum isEkN ∼ k−1.2, flatter than the Bolgianospectrum ∼ k−1.4, and the structure functions exhibit strongintermittency, the relative scaling exponents being similar to those of apassive scalar.In the stable case the spectrum is closerto the Bolgianospectrum and intermittency is much weaker.
