Abstract

Aqueous micellar solutions of tetradecyl-and hexadecyl- trimethylammonium and tetradecyl-and hexadecylpyridinium bromides have been investigated in presence of KBr by means of elastic and quasi-elastic light scattering, in the semi-dilute range (up to 0.42M) where the micelles are very elongated. The surfactant concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficient and scattered intensity follow power laws, with the same exponents as semi-dilute solutions of polymers in good solvents. The same behavior is observed when 1-pentanol is added to concentrated micellar solutions of tetradecyltrimethylam- monium bromide in H2O-0.1M KBr.
