Abstract

We show that one-scale non planar loops are a useful tool to study the approach of a lattice gauge theory towards the continuum limit. We test this tool in a Monte-Carlo calculation of the string tension of the SU(3) lattice gauge theory in several color representations on an 8 4 lattice. The results are in complete agreement up to β = 6.0 with those obtained on much larger lattices from planar loops ratios or correlations of thermal loops. We also present a study of scaling in the non-pertubative region which suggests the existence of a non-trivial fixed point in QCD.
