Scale Factors and Matrix Conditioning Associated With Triangular-Cell Hierarchical Vector Basis Functions

Abstract

Several families of hierarchical vector basis functions for triangular cells are reviewed, and the matrix condition numbers associated with their use are compared. Scale factors are introduced to optimize the linear independence of each set and are shown to provide substantial improvement for most families.
