Abstract

This paper deals with the azimuthal sea clutter, namely sea clutter from a series of different radar azimuths. The purpose is to demonstrate the fractal property of the azimuthal sea clutter. In detail, the random walk model of sea clutter is introduced, and then the criterion of judging the fractal property of sea clutter is presented. By analyzing the real azimuthal sea clutter data from X-band navigation radar, it is found that the fractal property of the azimuthal sea clutter is closely related to the grazing angle and the sea state. Low sea state (calm sea surface) and very low grazing angle will result in the non-fractal performance of the azimuthal sea clutter. (4 pages)
