Abstract

We analyze and design Fresnel zone-plate lenses by the scalar finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The optical element could be utilized to replace conventional transform lenses in integrated-optic RF spectrum analyzers to focus an optical beam onto a photodetector array. Our simulation shows that the realistic focal length of the Fresnel lens is shorter than the theoretical value and dependent on the structural parameters.
