Abstract

To combat inter-symbol interference caused by multipath channels, single carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE) transmission adds cyclic prefix (CP) to the head of transmitted data. Nevertheless, the overhead of CP leads to drawback for high transmission efficiency in varying mutipath channels. To address this issue, a novel SC-FDE transmission scheme with length-adaptive CP is proposed in this paper. In the proposed scheme, the delay spread parameters are estimated by a low-complexity algorithm for adaptively adjusting the length of CP. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can obtain accurate delay spread estimate and determine appropriate CP length for transmission over multipath radio channels.
