Abstract

It is concluded from a model calculation on finite nuclei that any “effective” two-nucleon force to be used for a Hartree-Fock calculation in the Ca region, or for haavier nuclei should be chosen so as to give the correct saturation density in nuclear matter. For light nuclei like 16O, however, reasonable saturation densities can be obtained by using forces without any short-range correlation.
