Abstract
Saturable absorption and Q-switching action for the triphenylmethane dye fuchsin pumped by a ruby laser is shown to occur in fluorocarbon solvents and not in water or common organic solvents. These properties are related to a probable change in the bonding structure of the dye by the fluorocarbon solvent.
