Abstract

Background: Patients with cleft lip and palate have described unpleasant experiences related to their appearance, the difficulties in adjusting to facial changes after surgery, and the differences these changes had made to their body image conditions before, during, and after orthognathic surgery. A systematic review of patients concerning the psychosocial well-being of surgical-orthodontic patients recommends new assessment methods that focus on changes in moods and well-being, post intervention.
