Abstract

Satellite images are necessary in geographical information, medical, geosciences studies and defense monitoring. But the resolution is the drawback of satellite images. Their resolution is modified due to the height of the satellites orbits and instrument used. Image resolution enhancement methods are used to resolve the drawback of satellite images. Resolution enhancement is the essential application in image processing. This application is used to modify the satellite images so that modified images are of better quality with enhanced the edges. Transform domain methods have been used to improve the resolution of images. In this paper, implementation two of transform domain methods such as Stationary Wavelet Transform (SWT) and Stationary Wavelet Transform with Discrete Wavelet transform (DWT) is carried out. Stationary Wavelet Transform (SWT) with Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) gives better resolution enhancement compared to SWT, because high frequency components of SWT are added with high frequency components of DWT to generate the estimated high frequency components. The resultant images are tested with the above mentioned methods. These methods compared in terms of Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Square Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and TIME to show the quality of the particular methods.
