Abstract

In this paper, a comparison between optimal adaptive and fuzzy control methods is performed for the problem of satellite attitude control. The optimal adaptive controller is designed based on Markov parameters, which can be utilized to follow a given control command. The fuzzy controller is shown to achieve faster response than the optimal adaptive controller. Moreover, the problem of satellite attitude control using the adaptive controller with on–off thrusters is studied. Simulation results affirm that the adaptive control method with on–off thrusters is robust against the variations in the inertia matrix and that the optimal adaptive control method is robust against constant disturbances.
