Abstract

Background: NAFLD is rapidly becoming the most common cause of chronic liver disease due to increase in the prevalence of obesity. NAFLD patients are at increased risk of liver related and cardiovascular mortality. It is the most common cause of asymptomatic elevated aminotransferase levels. Elevated triglycerides is strongly associated with NAFLD among markers of dyslipidemia. Aims: To assess difference in triglyceride and SGPT before and after administering Saroglitazar for 3 months in NAFLD patients. Methods: A total of 50 NAFLD patients aged >18 years with triglyceride >170 mg/ dl, SGPT > 50 U/L were enrolled. Their baseline lipid parameters, liver function parameters and diabetic status were measured and they were treated with Saroglitazar 4mg everyday for 3months after taking informed consent. 2 patients did not give consent and 1 patient lost to follow up. Lipid parameters, liver function tests were re-assessed at the end of 3months.NAFLD fibrosis score was calculated at baseline and at the end of 3 months. Results: Between the baseline and 12 weeks follow up population, there is a statistically significant difference in SGOT and triglyceride levels before and after treating with Saroglitazar. Conclusion: Saroglitazar improves triglyceride and SGPT levels in NAFLD patients with no significant adverse effect. Biography 1. Honey Maity 2.
