Sarcosine sarcosinium trifluoroacetate

Abstract

We report the synthesis of a new salt in the system sarcosine – trifluoroacetic acid – water, namely sarcosine sarcosinium trifluoroacetate, whose structure contains a dimeric cation formed by an O–H···O hydrogen bond with an O···O distance equal to 2.528(2) Å. This is the first example among salts of amino acids with dimeric cation that contains the trifluoroacetate anion. Vibrational spectra of this crystal and previously known sarcosinium trifluoroacetate crystal have been studied. Peculiarities of the dimeric cation have been compared with other known salts of sarcosine with dimeric cations.
