Abstract

Background: Body composition has emerged as an important prognostic factor in cancer patients. Sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity (obesity with depleted muscle mass) might be predictive of morbidity and mortality in advanced breast cancer and also of toxicity to chemotherapy. We retrospectively studied patients with advanced breast cancer receiving adjuvant chemotherapy in order to determine if sarcopenia was associated with a higher incidence of toxicity and a shorter time to tumor progression.
