Abstract

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown etiology that presents with pulmonary manifestations in most patients. The lungs and thoracic lymph nodes are almost always involved, resulting in acute or insidious respiratory symptoms; however, nearly every organ system can be affected. Extrathoracic sites of involvement include the lymph nodes, eyes, bone marrow, spleen, liver, kidneys, salivary glands, skin, and mucous membranes. Bone involvement in sarcoidosis varies from 3% to 13%,1 with the small bones of the hands and feet most frequently affected.
