Abstract

Oceanic shear front and convergent front are two types of oceanic front. Shear front and convergent front have different generating mechanisms resulting in different flow field which leads to the different SAR image features of them. In this paper, we derive the relationship of radar look direction angle with the hydrodynamic modulation, as well as it with the velocity bunching modulation. And the experimental results of SAR images of shear front and convergent front with different angles of radar look direction are presented. The analysis of the simulation results indicates that shear fronts appear as bright or dark line under different conditions while convergent fronts appear as bright line.
