Abstract

When considering how to approach the complexity of gender non-conforming identities beyond the binary, it is important to recognize that their existence is not new. With this in mind, I reflect on the potential of decolonization to challenge binary norms and embrace gender fluidity. In this reflective essay, I explore pre-colonial identities and reflect on how reclaiming them can contribute to a more inclusive understanding of gender or, at the very least, initiate the discussion about a more inclusive understanding of gender.
