Abstract

Based on the large ground state spin value and orbital quenching angular momentum of Dy(III) ions, significant magnetic anisotropy is generated. Most of the related studies of single-molecule magnets are carried out around Dy(III) ions, from single core to 24 core. There are reports, but the number of single-molecule magnets with high core (eight cores and above) is still very limited. We have obtained three hourglass-shaped Ln-exclusive nine-nuclear complexes [Ln9(C8H9N2O)4(μ4-OH)2(μ3-OH)8(NO3)8(CH3OH)2(H2O)2]·(NO3)·xMeOH·yH2O (Ln = Dy (1, x = 4, y = 7), Ho (2, x = 1, y = 8), Gd (3, x = 3, y = 0)) with 2-pyridine acetalamine Schiff base as a ligand, and studied the relationship between their structure and magnetic properties. The AC magnetic susceptibility of complex 1 exhibits obviously single-molecule magnetic behavior. Further, the photoresponse test of cluster 2 in a variety of different metal ion solutions showed that it can efficiently recognize Y(III) ions. This is one of the rare examples of selective photoresponsive Y(III) ions of lanthanide complexes. The AC magnetic susceptibility of complex 1 exhibits obviously single-molecule magnetic behavior.
