Abstract

The intelligent optimization algorithm has been widely used in hull form optimization. The sampling method (SM) provides information on the optimization space in the initial stage, which can determine the accuracy and efficiency of the optimization algorithm. Hull form transformation methods determine the features of the optimization space, and the SM should fit the optimization space. Most optimization space is cubic space, although a unique type of space is observed, and it is unsuitable for most SMs, such as Latin hypercube sampling (LHS) and uniform design (UD). This paper proposes a special sampling method in simplex space (SMSS), which is different from cubic optimization space, for use with the morphing method (MM). This SM can provide uniformly distributed samples for hull form optimization based on the MM. The wave resistance of the 1300TEU container ship based on the MM is simulated to illustrate the efficiency of the SMSS.
