Abstract

Individuals who have interactions with the criminal justice system, including incarceration, or who have a criminal case pending, can receive Community Mental Health Services Block Grant (MHBG) funds for their care and treatment, according to a letter written by Elinore F. McCance‐Katz, M.D., Ph.D., assistant secretary for mental health and substance use at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The Feb. 2 letter addressed to the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) served to clarify some confusion about the use of MHBG funds, according to NASMHPD's Weekly Update on Feb. 14.
