Abstract

An extraordinary (because it is the first time documenting actual patients) research project, a census of all patients in all opioid treatment programs (OTPs), has been under way by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD) and the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD). A total of 512,224 patients in OTPs were reflected in the survey, which is not an extrapolation — it is a head‐by‐head count, not patient‐identified. The State Opioid Treatment Authorities (SOTAs), part of NASADAD, helped collect the data.
