Abstract

Salvo is an extremely early cultivar of timothy (Phleum pratense L.), which produces excellent aftermath. In mixtures with alfalfa, the heads are 10–15 cm out of the boot when the alfalfa is ready to cut for haylage. Salvo’s rapid regrowth contributes to higher second cutting yields than those obtained with later timothy cultivars, which are slower to produce regrowth. Salvo is expected to be particularly useful in the Atlantic provinces as an early cultivar in pure stands.
