Abstract

Salvia hispánica seeds extract has been investigated as a carbon Steel corrosion inhibitor in 0.5 M sulfuric acid by using polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, electrochemical noise and weight-loss, tests at different concentrations (0, 100, 200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 ppm) and temperatures, namely 25, 40 and 60 °C. Results show that inhibition efficiency increases as the inhibitor concentration increases, decreases with temperature. The extract inhibit corrosion mainly by an adsorption mechanism. Potentiodynamic polarization studies show that extract is mixed-type inhibitors.
