Abstract

A 26-year-old Thai man underwent free toe transfer for reconstruction of his left band after multi-digit amputation. Unfortunately we encountered a problem of disseminated venous thrombosis. We dissected the thrombotic veins and found that the venous network was occluded by thrombi. Surprisingly, there was a retrograde arterial blood flow in the second dorsal metatarsal artery which immediately relieved the congestion. We shunted the backflow of the SDMA (second dorsal metatarsal artery) with a vein graft and successfully salvaged the free toe.
